Always hire a licensed professional

You should ALWAYS hire a licensed professional for electrical work, even for the small stuff.  Do you have a crazy uncle that claims that he can change a plug?  How about a contractor or painter?  Don’t trust them!  With a licensed electrician, you can feel relatively secure that he has experience, because he’s at least been vetted by the state.

Did you know the code book contains hundreds of pages of information for the licensed electrician to adhere to? It’s designed to help prevent electrical accidents and fires. You really do need to know more than just “connect the black wire to the black wire and the green wire to the green wire.”

Thinking of hiring “just anyone”?

Anyone might be able to do the work, but...

  • will you feel comfortable leaving just anyone off the street in your home?
  • do they know the National Electric Code well enough to understand which code issues come into play during a remodel or repair project?
  • will they be able to create your desired result in the safest way possible?
  • are they articulate enough to explain their installations to you?
  • can you find someone who will actually show up to do it?
